A deliberately provocative title that will open up an interesting debate around the cyber function and its business value and will be backed by solid IAAC research into the issues.
Agenda:
6pm – Arrival
6.30pm to 7.30pm – Nigel Jones’s talk on why cyber people undervalue information, including Q&A
7.30pm to 8.30pm – The Cyber Rant – a group participatory discussion on this topic and anything else anyone wishes to raise in the context of cybersecurity – one rule – no product mentions.
8.30pm onwards – Open Networking
Open Door Policy: The event is open to any and all cyber professionals, so please invite your colleagues. For details on joining SWCSC Cyber Professionals (there is no cost) visit membership page -membership is not a pre-requisite to attend this event, just the £10 to cover our costs.
PRICING: As discussed at the first Cybersec professional networking event, the SWCSC cannot cover costs so we ask a small contribution from everyone attending to cover room hire and the speakers travel costs, included in this ticket price.
The venue includes a bar, but does not offer food.
Parking: There are several car parks nearby but allow yourself 5-10 mins walk to get to the venue.
About the IAAC: The Information Assurance Advisory Council (IAAC) mission is to advance Information Assurance (IA) to ensure that the UK’s Information Society has a robust, resilient and secure foundation. Further, IAAC intends that users of digital products and services should be confident these are safe and secure for them, their families and their businesses.
About Nigel Jones, CEO IAAC: His career started as an Army officer, specialising in information operations and teaching defence and security studies. After the Army he worked at QinetiQ as a managing consultant, leading a team advising and researching across sectors in a critical infrastructure and Ministry of Defence research programme. He was Director of the Technology Strategy Board’s (now Innovate UK) Cyber Security Knowledge Transfer Network, bringing academic, public and private stakeholders together to work on innovation in cyber security. He was then appointed senior research fellow at Cranfield University at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom and later became Senior Lecturer in Cyber Defence and Information Operations. There he established and directed the Cyber Masters Programme for UK Defence and ran the UK Chevening-Tata Consulting Services International Cyber Policy programme for Indian Fellows. He has also been appointed a visiting fellow at the Defence Studies Department, King’s College London.
