Gumtree has released a report examining the behaviour of scammers and victims and the reasons why fraud can be an issue for online marketplaces.
In the report Professor Monica Whitty of the University of Warwick says that her work has revealed that some of the advice and warnings “don’t necessarily help protect victims or change their cyber security behaviours”
“Scammers play on the way we think, whether it’s our desire for a bargain or a sense of urgency we have in our time-poor society. With one in five online marketplace scam victims not even filing a report, that’s adding up to a challenge which we all need to face.” Gumtree UK
In order to move forward, the report suggest that this subject needs attention, involvement and collaboration
